[QUOTE=dh4645;38819]havent had anything in the kegerator for 2 months. I was in Philly for work and only home on the weekends so it would have went bad.
so my dilemma is...at my local beer distributor that's 2 min away from my house a 1/2 of sam adams octoberfest will be like $160 and the 1/6 is like $80 (with a $30 deposit on either since i traded in my last empty for a case of octoberfest)
the 1/2 is 3x as much beer for only twice the price, but i don't know if i want to pay that much or need that much octoberfest and the 1/6 for $80 is about the same price for the equivalent amount of beer in cases.
maybe i should just go with my usual 1/2 of yuengling lager for $85 + $30 deposit and just buy a case of octoberfest.
or should i try something else?
what do you think?[/QUOTE
A case of Sam Adams is less than $21 at the Costco, a 1/6 is 9 six packs. It's too much of a premium to have on tap.

i'm not a member of costco, but i also live in PA, where most stores do not sell beer.
mainly beer distributors, bars, some sheetz gas stations and wegmans grocery stores are the places we can buy beer in PA.
i wish bj's wholesale would sell beer. that would be great.
i do agree that most sam adams beers are too expensive to have on tap.
hey, what happened to my original signature?

I agree. I got the local supplier to sell me the last 1/6 they had in the walk-in (it was reserved for the manager, but he let me have it anyway), although they did have a full 1/2, but that was reserved by someone else as a special order, and it was only $60 for the 1/6, still expensive but worth it once a year). They will hold pretty much indefinitely for those with kegerators (just another reason to have a kegerator), as they have had the 1/2 there for over 1.5-2 months, awaiting the guy to pick it up. When I found that out, I put the 1/2 of Beck's Octoberfest on reserve. Can't wait to get it out as so far, I am more impressed with that batch than the Sam Adams, but both are delicious. (Just wish I would have known they keep on reserve that long and I would have ordered a Guinness 250, as no one can get it anymore in my area ).

Currently have a 1/2 Barrel of Hoptober and 1/6 Barrel of Fat Tire. Both disappearing far too quickly.
-
I just picked up a 1/4 of Bells Oberon and always have a 1/2 of Miller Lite. Don't have room for 2 1/2's, but wish I did so I could have got a half of Oberon.
-
Just got a 1/6 shock top.... Now, where can I get a tapper handle
-
Not sure where everybody gets there's. I've got all of mine at garage sales or eBay. There is some sweet Shocktop handles.
-
1/4 Miller Lite
Corney of home brewed Beagle Blonde Ale
1/6 SN Celebration Ale (coming soon)
Note: The DFH and SN collaboration should be interesting, no?
Beer - the 5th food group!
-
Just got a 1/4 of Bells Amber Ale to go with the 1/2 Bells Kalamazoo Stout.
Anyone in Florida know of any local brew pubs that will fill up an empty keg for you? Just curious if I can get some local brews for a little less $$.
-
Florida is a big state. McGuire's Irish Pub in Pensacola has a brewery. I don't know if they distribute it outside of their restaurant.

Yeah, sorry not to be more detailed. North Central Florida to be specific. We have a BJ's Brewhouse in Gainesville, but I talked to them and they said they do not fill kegs at this one.

Just picked up a 1/2 of Celebration Ale last night. I am about 5 minutes from pouring my first pint to go with the chili that I am making.
-
Just ordered a 1/2 barrel of Bells Two Hearted.
-
Sorry if this is OT (and I did search) but for you guys with the Celebration Ale - what temp and pressure settings are optimal? I called the brewery and they said "between 9-14 psi and 34deg" Anyone have a more specific recommendation on the pressure?
-
I have mine at 37 degrees and 14 psi. It is working great so far.
-
We have a tall quarter of Lord Chesterfield (since we're FINALLY out of the Anchor Summer - I LOVE our beer distributor, he ordered a couple for us at the end and held them ) and tomorrow we're picking up our Mad Elf and finally running the dual tower as a dual tower!
-
I have a 1/6 of Elevator Brewing - Dark Horse going right now. Had it the first time at the Columbus Clippers game this summer and just had to have it at home.
-
Just picked up a 1/6 of Old World Brewery's 'Nitro Blonde'.
This is a local microbrew that has a half a dozen different flavors. All tasty.

it's really good. but not as good as octoberfest.
we had a sample of it at wegmans and i immediately bought a 6 pack, then this week i bought the sam adams holiday variety pack that has 4 more of em.
my local beer distributor has 3 or 4 1/2 kegs of it and i was very tempted, but it's hard to justify the price when i can get 1/2 of yuengling lager for $85 (about half the price of sa)
hey, what happened to my original signature?

Corny of Coopers Cerveza almost finished....next up corny of Brew Canada Canadian Lager...

Just killed the 1/6 of Sam Adams Octoberfest and installed the 1/2 of Beck's Octoberfest (person who orderd didn't want/need so picked it up for $129 + tax, a steal).
-
1/6 sam adams winter lager and 1/4 miller lite
-
Irish Stout
IPA
Irish Red
Wit
Hard Cider
As I look through the prices some are paying for kegs you really should consider brewing your own beer. It is very simple if you brew from extract and you can make beer as good or better than you can buy. Like any other hobby it can be as expensive as you would like. I make my beer in plastic buckets and then go to corney kegs. You can make a 5 gallon keg of wheat beer for about 20 bucks and a very hoppy IPA for less than 50 bucks. The stout I made cost around 25 bucks.
Here are a few pics of my kegerator:

-
Agreed. Anyone who owns a kegerator needs to consider brewing, and anyone who brews needs a kegerator.

I've looked into home brewing....and it is something that I would love to do. But right now, I don't have any more room for any more stuff, and I'm lucky enough to a micro-brewery about 20 minutes away that will up kegs for cheap.
On tap right now:
Corny of Walter Payton's Dancing Bear Honey Wheat
Corny of Walter Payton's Aurora Amber Ale
Gone, but not forgotten:
Sixtel of Sam Adams OctoberFest
Sixtel of Walter Payton's Peat Smoked Scotch Ale
Sixtel of Walter Payton's Dancing Bear Honey Wheat
Corny of Walter Payton's Sweetness Stout

I brew beer, but I also have a wife and kids, so I can't brew once a week, or once every other week, even, to make enough beer to keep a steady supply in my kegerator. I brew about once every 6 weeks or so, and I like to bottle, too, so that I can share my beer with people not at my house.
I made a great Bell's Two Hearted (ish) recipe, and had it on tap for our Halloween block party.
Most of the time, however, I don't mind paying the extra money to have someone else make the beer for me, rather than spending half of a day making my own.

I have my Kegerator only to cut down on bottles and cans. You know, for the ecology. That's my story and I am sticking to it.

New Forum user here
I'm a new forum user, but I've been lurking for about a month.
I built the kegerator for a party with the thought that the keg would still have some beer in it that I didn't want to go bad.
The keg was emptied around 10:30pm. oh well
My first was a 1/2 of Thomas Hooker Octoberfest.
Then a 1/6th of Long Trail Amber Ale
and now on tap: Otter Creek Oktoberfest.
