Default Compressor Broken??

So I've been working on my chest freezer conversion for about 4 weeks now and was just putting the finishing touches on it when my compressor shut off. I had the top open for about an hour while working on it and the compressor was running about 45min of that time. I upped the temp on the thermostat so I didn't over work it, but it just shut off randomly. I decreased the temp on the thermostat to try to get it to come back on and the thermostat clicked like it usually does but the compressor didn't turn on. Did I overheat it or something? Is there such a thing as a over heat sensor that might have shut off the compressor to avoid over heating? I'm really bummed

Yes there is an overload device on the compressor. It is called a Klixon. It generally only comes into play if the compressor draws too much amperage.

Where is the condenser located on your freezer? If it is located in the exterior walls of the freezer & you covered it up with paneling or something it will cause the pressure of the refrigerant to rise because the unit cannot dissipate heat.

Unplug the unit for a couple of hours & see if the compressor starts back up after it cools off.
