Default Faucet/Shank leak

i have a leak in the faucet at the red arrow. The frustrating part is that i cannot seem to remove the faucet from the shank.

Am i crazy becuase they are not supposed to be detached or do i just need a better wrench?

What perplexes me further is that it defintely did not do this for the first keg. And I'm also not sure how this is because that attached picture has been one piece since the first keg.

Thanks in advance.

By the way, I should add that I have a tower setup.

How long has it been since you cleaned your system? I would recommend soaking the faucet and shank in warm water then try to seperate them.

The faucet should be easy to remove if cleaned on a frequent basis. The washer at the back of the faucet has probably deteriated or dried out, either of which would cause a leak.

Other possibility is the shank collar and shank ring. These hold the faucet collar on.

If the leak is coming out of the holes in the faucet collar (ring that holds faucet to shank) then replace the faucet washer.

If the leak is coming out where the shank enters the tower, replace the shank collar and shank ring.

i will defintely soak it overnight or longer. this is only the second keg though, so how deteriorated should it expect to be?

I guess my main problem is that i cannot disconnect the two pieces that you see in the picture

You need to have the proper tool (spanner wrench) to tighten or loosen the coupling nut that holds the faucet on the shank. Tapman

If this connection is that difficult to separate the splines on either the shank or the faucet or both are damaged. Not crazy about the shank with the straight nipple of the backside. The beer line tend to sag and possibly kink.

You may have to put the shank in a vice (wrap the threads with cloth to protect) and attempt to dislodge the faucet with a rubber mallet. If successful, inspect the splines for damage. If after cleaning the two pieces still do not seat correctly, you might want to order a new shank and / or faucet to replace.
