Just returned my empty 1/2 of Miller Lite and picked up a 1/2 bbl of Ziegenbach for 68.50 with tax. Thats better than paying $86 for Miller Lite but the wife wanted the ML for the first keg.

I have an empty shell so I never pay a deposit anymore. Here in Hawaii things are more expensive, but when I lived in Colorado the typical price of a half barrel was about $90. I had recently ordered a pony of bud light and it was about $60 at the BX. The half barrel of Sam's cost $140.

You need to put that woman in check!

I actually just moved from Indiana to California. I pretty much did 1/2 barrels of Two Hearted in Indiana...they would run about $130-140. Here I got a 1/2 barrel of Racer 5 and it was $169. So you definitely pay alot more here. The only IPA/APA you could get for the $130-140 range was Sierra Nevada. I decided it was work +$30 for the Racer 5.

It's the same way here if you're getting a keg for a party and don't have a kegerator. Next time you go buy a keg tell them it's for a kegerator and then they should lift the week limit.

Yeah, usually if you talk to a manager or store owner and let them know you are going to actually need it for longer, they will work with you if they have some odd policy like that.

If you have a total wine and more near you it's 139.99 plus the deposit I think its the same for the racer 5. This place puts BEVMO in the dirt and it's on the same block where I go.

I've never had their IPA, myself. Bell's Two Hearted IS one of my favorite IPA's. We don't get Stone, here, but we're working on that. I've had Arrogant Bastard, Ruination, and their Imperial Stout.

I hardly ever take the keg back to the same place I bought it from. Never had an issue anyplace doing this. I'm talking 4 different states depending on the kind of keg I get. PA, NJ, DE, MD... I shop around to get the beer I want to try next.

We don't pay the deposit anymore either, we have two kegs (from when we got started earlier this year with the two sixtals of Mad Elf) that we switch out.
We go to bound, though would probably consider hitting a brewery since there are quite a few near here (Victory, Dogfish, Troegs, Yards...). We've been drinking Anchor Summer since April and have paid about $140 for the keg.
If you are near a Total Wine and More, this is a link to their beer list. It's a PDF. I linked to their Cherry Hill, NJ location (since that's where I go) but you can change to any location by going here.

Hey, thanks for that info. My brother lives in Aurora. Next time I'm up there I'm bringing a corny with me. From the descriptions, I'll probably like the hoppy amber.

Getting a corny filled for $37.50 is a pretty good deal if it good beer. I've brewed some double IPAs that were about that price in grain, hops and yeast. Factor in the time involved in brewing and it would be worth considering if I lived in the area.

IIPA for about $40 and time is pretty good though. Once my kids get older I may give home brewing a try.

kegs in washington state
first post here.. i searched all of the threads and couldn't find a better place to post this, so rather than starting a new thread i'll try it here:
washington has some tough liquor laws, and apparently there are few places wher kegs can be purchased. i live south of seattle (kent) and i've tried to find someplace local with no luck..... calling the local distributors was no help, they won't talk to anybody unless thay already have a commercial account and they are unwilling to point a customer in the proper direction. the local bars have also been no help, as they are unwilling or unable to deal kegs to the public...
there are 3 places up north in seattle that deal kegs, and 1 place down south in tacoma that i know about. if anybody knows of anyplace close to kent/auburn, i'd really like to hear from you! thanks..

You should probably start a new thread for this. State your question in the title. You will get better results. Good Luck.

I despise Stella....
It is one of those beers that tastes like it was made with bleach to me.
I also hate the fact that it has become one of the most "pretentious" beers on the market....it has overtaken Guinness (and I do like Guinness...but there are better stouts) in the over-rated department.

I guess Stella's (and others) marketing campaigns have paid off for them. I don't require a Corona just because I'm sitting on a beach, throwing my cell phone at a seagull.
Haha !

I mainly purchase locally brewed craft beer. (i.e. MD or PA mainly)
I live in MD and just ordered a 1/2 bbl of Victory Hop Devil.
$149.99 + tax.
My staple beer is DuClaw Brewing Company's Hellrazer. I buy it directly from the brewer, (it's only available on draft), and it costs $139.99 + tax.

I brew the beer I drink...
I have been home-brewing for almost 10 years- by far the most rewarding hobby on the planet IMO.
With the level of enthusiasm on this forum about kegged beer, I suggest all of you consider getting into brewing beer as well. Think of how cool it would be to serve your own beer, on tap, at your house. The satisfaction is second to none, believe me.
Craft beer can be made at home, to any style, strength, color, hop level, etc, for a FRACTION of the costs I am seeing here. Plus, some of your CO2 and temperature control equipment can do brewing tasks as well.
Once you get into all grain brewing, and are able to buy some ingredients in quantity, plan on making world-class craft beer for about $20 per 5-gallons, or even less.
I currently have Oktoberfest, Doppelbock, and Amber Ale on tap in my converted fridge that will hold six standard homebrew kegs. (5 gallons each) I have a 20# CO2 tank on the side of the fridge, with a 6-way gas distributor feeding the kegs. Three kegs are tapped at a time, each feeding 6-inch stainless shanks through the fridge door with the new Perlick faucets. It really works well- but I do get some foam on the first pour.
I am going to add a fan to the inside of the fridge to keep the shanks colder and help circulate air.
What a great forum, I really have enjoyed reading about everyone’s experience!
Cheers!

A sixtal of Mad Elf is going to run us about $90 (where 2 cases run about $120). Gonna have to check on Stoudts Smooth Hoperator, it's on tap at our local bar and pretty good.

Well...I just called and they said they will refill a keg if it does not have any markings on it.....basically....you can't "borrow" a Miller keg a take it too them.
The young lady on the phone did not know what a corny was....and the brewmaster wasn't in at the moment....
So....the long answer is....maybe.....
