Can this Chest Freezer become a two tap Kegerator?

If you dowload the pdf from beverage fact0ry's website, it has a size comparison chart to the most often used kegs. A half barrel the most common one has a max height of 23.5 inches or so and coor's kegs come the biggest of all the common half barrels with a width of 18"
So even if you got 2 half barrels for it, you should have no clearance problems with depth width or height, but go to lowes and measure the inside just to be sure though

Seriously, I just bought this freezer just for that very purpose. I haven't started on my conversion yet, but we should share notes. I've done a TON of research and I've still got a lot to learn (we might be able to help each other through the process)

This freezer was on sale a couple weeks ago for $350. You should get a Lowes moving coupon for 10% off. That will at least save you $35.

So you can use one of the freezers to cool the kegs, dosnt it get too cold? are you going to run a remote tap setup (like in the bars?) or have it mounted to the freezer top? Ive heard you should keep you co2 tanks out of the fridge/freezer that they last longer? Sorry for all the questions and hijacking the thread. New to all this and have been searching for ideas on how to do my bar

Theres an outlet controlled thermostat this site sells that turns an outlet on/off depending on the temperature setpoint

I am glad this thread is growing. I have been going back and forth between buying a kegerator and making a kegerator. I am not mechanically inclined at all! But, I keep hearing how easy it is to make one, so am still thinking about giving it a shot.

The Chest Freezer would accomplish the setup I want. Although, I would use a Tower Dispenser mounted on the top of the Freezer, which from what I have read is not the best way to go??? But, I really like the look.

I would like to have one tap for Guinness and two more taps for two micro brews, or even my home brew!

Im liking the chest freezer idea, would suck to lift 1/2 barrels into but seeing how i wana only use 1/4's i think it would work great. Im glad i stumbled accross this forum!

The Chest Freezer does look tempting, BUT, as has been pointed out, lifting a 1/2 Keg into that puppy would not be easy. Any comments? Does a 1/2 keg basically negate the chest freezer?

New here as well, and wanted to first of thank you all for your expertise and RickDels?? post with the keg dimensions. I was about to look that up as well. Anyways, I see you two boys have the same deep freezer which looks very sweet. One of you said you did a great deal of research already and one thing that I am wondering is, wont those freezers be too cold??? Maybe not since you both are on the same page but I just thought those would actually freeze the kegs.

Here's my story...

Just scored a 'SOBE' refrigerator the other day, it has a glass front door and will easily fit a half keg in it. For me its a score of a lifetime, im so stoked, i called my buddies back home and told them all about it and everything. Anyway, I am basically fishing for ideas. I have a friend that converted a full size fridge into a kegerator that holds two ponies, but it looks like ****. The two taps are cool, but when you open it up you see all the hoses and CO2... I guess I am going for aesthetics here, along with the cold brew of coarse...

I am perfectly content with one half keg. My first thought was to have the tap coming out of the front (through the glass) but I think that will be very difficult, if not impossible because of the glass. Next I thought of a tap coming out of the top, which would be second best. It also has a halogen light in the front that illuminated the "SOBE" sticker, that is before I removed it.

So if any of you guys have been witness to some really rad kegerators or have any wicked ideas please drop a line. I have searched through the forum and will continue to do so but in the mean time any suggestions/tips/advice is very welcome. Happy drafts too all!!! Sincerely, JW.

I just built a small chest conversation with an 8" insulated wood collar. I bought a 6.8 cu ft freezer from lowes that fits up to 4 1/6 barrels or a full 1/2 barrel plus a 1/6th. The only 1/2 barrel I can't fit is coors and miller, b/c of the bulge kegs, which is fine by me. In the attached picture I have 1-1/6th barrel and 1/4 slim. I also managed to fit all my equipment inside the deep freeze.

There are a lot of videos and links online of advice as to how to build these. You should try and read them all b/c they all have good advice. Most guys build their wood collar out of solid 2x4's or 2x8's which I hear insulates the deep freeze just fine. I went a step further and paired up 1x8's and insulated in between with foam for safe measure. I have pictures of my entire installation process should you want any advice or to see just how I did it. My brother and law just built one as well and used the 14.8 cu ft. Last time I looked inside of his he had a 1/2 barrel and two 1/4 slims so would assume you can fit two full kegs.

Lifting 1/4 slims is easy with one guy. A 1/2 barrel would take two guys. If you keep it in the garage or basement you could make a simple pully system which seems over the top but possible. Or you can frame casters for the bottom of the freezer (which I've done so I can take it to parties) and wheel it over to a counter or steps or anywhere where you can get up above the collar and drop it in.

I thought that I would add to the discussion with my project as well. I used a 10 cuft Magic Chef bought at Home Depot. It's big enough to fit a 1/2 barrel (Coors and Miller will fit) and a slim 1/4 next to it (or a regular 1/4 on top of the compressor). With some planning, you could probably get up to for 1/6th's but they aren't too available in Denver.

I went with a wood collar instead of a tower. My collar is 2 x 4's ripped down 1/2" so that I could reattach the hinges to the existing holes in the freezer. She works like magic!
