new kegerator
Ok. My 15 year old Kenmore kegerator is officially dead. I never measured the beer temp, never had to tweak pressure or lines for different types of beer, I never had to do much of anything, but clean it. It was as easy as throwing in a keg and whipping the handle open. You might have had to let the tap run just a tad, 1 or 2 secs, if it had been sitting for a bit, but it really was a gem.
I have read a number of threads here and I plan on buying a new Summit with a stainless top. Is MM the place to get it? Are some people just really chasing perfection with keeping the tower cold? I can think of a number of ways to make improvements. My biggest concern is that the damn thing just gets cold. I am a mechanical engineer and extremely capable of any mods, but I just as soon unpack and pour.

Chasing perfection? Guilty as charged. I would say the cheapest place you can find it, and you feel comfortable with support you could get from them would be the place to get it. I'd say MM would be as good as any as far as support and knowledge of their products for sale. If I were you, I'd plug it in and give it a whirl before I worried about any mods. I think MOST people are quite happy with any kegerator right out of the box.

Sometimes when I reflect back on all the beer I drink I feel ashamed.
Then I look into the glass and think about the workers in the brewery
and all of their hopes and dreams. If I didn't drink this beer, they might
be out of work and their dreams would be shattered. Then I say to myself,
"It is better that I drink this beer and let their dreams come true than
be selfish and worry about my liver."

I was happy out of the box with the fact that I had beer, but the foam that took over 3/4 of the glass was quite annoying.
I am much happier now that my tower is cooled and I get perfect 3/4" head at 37 degrees.
I don't think that any kegerator that doesn't have adequate cooling to the tower will be perfect, but you may be content.
