Default Danby Model DKC586BL

Does anyone have this model?

It would seem based on numbers of the other models this would be an older one but I cannot find this listed online anywhere. I only bought in 2 months ago from Home Depot. I may have to call Danby.

Anyway, I reason I am asking is I finally completed my mods today (just waiting on a keg tomorrow to taste test) and noticed something peculiar about the digital temperature reading: I think it is correct!

I have the temperature controller set at 35 (I have the Danby model like Psychodad) and the digital goes from about 34/35 up to 37 with the compressor cycles, just as I would expect. Now I don't have another good thermometer yet, but I have a really good meat thermometer. Now before you laugh, I tested it on the fridge, freezer, and an ice bath. Within 1.5 degrees on all. It is similar to the digital thermometer here:
http://www.micromatic.com/beer-quest...er-aid-46.html

The air temperature in my Danby matched on both the digital and meat. I had placed a glass of water in the Danby, but that temp doesn't seem right. How long should water take to get to the fridge temp?

I had tried the 33K resistor mod before this and I had ice forming inside (and the digital read 32) Didn't think nothing of it at the time, but looking back....

Do you think Danby got this one right? Or is my controller all messed up and it really is warmer in there?

I will get a new thermometer tomorrow and update with more info....

I'm not a 100% sure but I think the model you have is pretty much the same as the DKC645BLS however you do not have the stainless steel door. Yours is just a black fridge.

Does your unit have a manufactured date on it? If so, maybe Danby has worked out the kinks. I just picked up a DKC645BLS and it looks mine was made around 08/2007 so I think it's pretty new and I haven't had any cooling issues either but I haven't had it very long at all.

That is what I thought too but unlike the other guys, my circuit board is located in the bottom of the back. Is that where yours is?

My manufacture date is 7-15-2007.

So, I left the cup of water in overnight and took its temp this morning with my digital thermometer....36.7 degrees. Digital display reads 36.

Hmmmm...maybe they did work it out.

Oh well, I am sure it still had that nasty defrost cycle, so I am not upset taking control away and of course I needed to upgrade the fan and blower.

But...if they did fix the temperature...maybe those with bad ones can get a new probe or circuit board from Danby...

Will update more later today!

Well, the thermometer indicated 1 degree off from the digital. Either I got lucky or Danby fixed their issues.

probably a little of both. I have a newer Danby, don't know the born on date, but it was purchased in November of '07. Mine gets down to 38 with no keg in it, when set to 36. With a keg in it, a week later it still poured at 40-41. I figured this to be due to lack of circulation in the thing, so I put in my blower and added a 100K resistor so i could be sure to get to 38. Now, with a keg in it, the readout says 36 and the beer pours at 36.5.

Sometimes when I reflect back on all the beer I drink I feel ashamed.
Then I look into the glass and think about the workers in the brewery
and all of their hopes and dreams. If I didn't drink this beer, they might
be out of work and their dreams would be shattered. Then I say to myself,
"It is better that I drink this beer and let their dreams come true than
be selfish and worry about my liver."
