Is there any difference in putting the tap in the side of the refrigerator versus putting it in the door? I have everything ready to install the kegerator, but am afraid to drill through the side because all the directions I find instruct drilling through the door

I tapped mine out the side. I found that the handles interfere with the freezer door if you put the tap on the front (I have the tall bar style handles.) To mount the faucet on the front of mine and still be able to open the freezer it would have been so low that you have to get on your knee's to fill your cup! I didn't even think of this, my neighbor saved my butt on this one! All of the, for lack of a better term crap, that makes the fridge function is in the back wall not the side. Good luck.

Personal preference on location. Before coring hole through side wall, locate thermostat wire to prevent severing.

The other thing to be careful of is...some fridges have cooling tubes returning from the blower running thru the sides to warm them and keep ice from building up...i punctured one with a tapping screw and killed the whole fridge....
door has no such tubage.

I have mine on the side of my fridge and not in the door. The hose is not in my way when I open the door.

Make sure you don't have any important pipes or wires running down the side.
