Default Kegerator Compressor Replacement

Hi,

I bought a Kegerator on Craigslist a couple months ago. It was advertised as a couple years old, but there is a sticker with beer deliveries from back when I was practically in diapers. Bottom line, it's a great unit, complete with drain, drawers, and cabinets for multi-tank storage.

After picking it up, it needed recharged, but we continue to have problems with it. The thermostat is hosed, shown by the fact that it typically won't drop below 40 deg (although I did have it down to 26 deg last week, and I can't duplicate that), and the compressor runs non-stop.

The unit is an old Fridgidaire from the early 80's. I can't find parts for it anywhere because no one recognizes the model or serial number.

Aside from the thermostat fix (which I know is coming), the compressor makes a constant squeeky rattling noise. Annoying!!! My plan is to replace the compressor, but i have no idea how to select a new one. How many BTUs, high pressure or low pressure, etc?

Any assistance on how to calculate the size compressor i need is appreciated. I'll try to pick up something cheap from ebay, and then pay to have it installed and the line recharged.

Thanks!
Justin
