Superior Products Beverage Air Unit
Just a quick question from a newbie kegger. I accepted delivery of my unit today. After setup, I noticed that the inner fan runs constantly while the compressor turns on / off with the tempature. Just want to be sure that the fun running 24 / 7 is normal for this unit or should it also go off when the unit is up to tempature? Any advice would be appreciated.

I do not have a Bev Air Unit but I am considering purchasing a BM23. How would you describe the noise level of your unit? Is it loud enough to bother you in an adjoining room, or if you had it upstairs could you hear it running downstairs in the room below? From what I know about the unit, since the fan running is supposed to keep the tower cool, I would think it would run all the time, and the compressor or course would cycle on and off with the temp. If I'm wrong, someone who has a BA unit, please correct me.

Everyone has a different tolerance level to noise and each homes floor plan is different allowing for changes in sound level between rooms. My experience with the sound is that if your in the same room and only the inner fan is running, you hardly know the unit is there. Once the compressor kicks on, I'll admit it's noisy, though in no way overbearing to the point you would need to talk loud to be heard (Again, this is in the same room with the unit.). When I'm in an adjoining room, I can hear the compressor when it's running but it doesn't bother me (It suttle enough to tune out.). I feel that I made a wise decision in buying it so far. Especially when I open the door and read the thermometer in a glass of water holding steady at 36 and the tower is cold to the touch. I'm looking forward to drawing that first beer real soon.

Yes, the interior fan is supposed to run constantly. No, I don't find the sound of the compressor running to be distracting. I have mine in what would be considered a dining room but I use it for an office/computer room. The room is completely open to my living room and it doesn't interfere with watching tv, visiting, etc. In fact, the fans on the computer in that room make just as much noise as the BM23.
Could you tell me how long your compressor runs for? Also how big of a temp swing between compressor on/off? I'm having problems with mine running forever just to drop the temp to setpoint. I have a guy coming this weekend to check on it but I would like to have this bit of info before hand.

Bard - My compressor seems to run for around 10 mins per every 1/2 hr to 45 mins or so though I really haven't hung around to time it officially. I'm judging by when I happen to be downstairs moving around and I happen to hear it kick on. I kind have thought 10 mins was a long time for such a small area to cool down but I guess that's the way the thermostat is setup. I'm ok with it as long as the temperature remains steady in my test glass of water, which it has been. I've checked it a few times when the compressor was off just out of curiosity and it was steady at 36.

Thank you for the input. I had the freon levels checked yesterday and they repair guy said it was properly charged. I guess I'll replace the thermostat and see if the unit will behave more like I think it should (cycle more often, less temp swing)
