About this "Auto Defrost" claim

Hi All,
As my screen name suggests, I have purchased the POS Avanti. I did get it in "almost new" condition and nearly stole it, so that does balance things out a bit for me.
I would like to thank EVERYONE for all of the posts on how to fix the Avanti. I am working on these fixes as we speak.
One thing I have not seen is, any issue with the auto defrost. I can not seem to find any info on how it actually works. Is it tied into the thermostat (that s*cks and is being replaced) or is there a timer somewhere else (not shown on circuit print)
Can anyone please enlighten me as you have before??

Should add that I always have frost on the evap in the back of the unit...
