Default CO2 line pressure

I bought a new regulator for my kegerator and the original co2 line did not fit onto the new regulator. I went out and bought two barbs, one male and one female, to fit together and make a bridge between the two different size hoses. So far the fitting holds and there are no leaks of CO2. When pouring the beer I have been getting almost entirely foam and I was wondering if this might be a result of having two different size hoses? Anyone have any thoughts on why this might be happening?
