Default Line Cleaning

Hey guys,

I was cleaning the the lines in my dual faucet chest freezer conversion. While I was soaking the couplers, I noticed a couple small pieces I haven't seen before. 1) A gray, tapering piece of rubber with a small hole in the end that was in between the co2 line and the coupler. 2) A small black piece of plastic with 3 fins in between the coupler and the beer line.

First off, what is the purpose of these pieces?

Second, the small black piece I mentioned was only in one of my couplers. Is this a problem?

Probably what you are talking about is the tapering piece is the CO2 check valve shown as #10 in the following link.

The 3 fin jobber is the check ball retainer shown as #1 in the same link.

Be sure to dissasemble your keg coupler completely before cleaning.
I put all the little parts in a small plastic or nylon mesh bag like fruits & vegetables come in from the grocery store. This makes it harder to lose or pour down the drain accidently. (Don't ask me how I came up with this trick.)
