Default Questions about bringing a Kegerator back to life!

Hello everyone,

Well I have been reading this forum for a while and I decided to post. I recently got my hands on a free Summit Kegerator. The old owner purchased the unit about a year ago. He had a leak in one of the fittings or lines. I am not sure what one. Well he just had the unit unplugged and left the leaked beer and keg in it. I found the unit in his basement and believe me it is a mess. It is filled with all types of mold and mildew. He told me I am welcome to it so I happily took it off his hands.

Ok my main question is, when I clean the unit should I re-use the current lines, tower, fittings and regulator? How should I clean all the mold and mildew out of the kegerator? Or should I buy whole new conversion kit that includes a regulator, tower, hoses and fittings?

My wife was fine with the fact we got it for free but she doesn't want to invest a good amount of money into it. She is fine with a 100 - 200 dollars. I will take some pictures of the current start of the Kegerator tonight

Thanks in advance, Chris

I would clean all the beer line components and remove all old lines (air/beer) and replace them with all new clamps. I would also probably replace all rubber washers. One last thing would be to soak and clean all the faucets. Also inspect the keg coupler which could have been a problem if it is badly worn. Then rehook everything up and check for leaks and flush system with a cleaner to clean out the towers which probably had a small metal line in them. As long as the compressor is good which it should be and holds a good temp, you should be good to go with minor costs. Just a good deal of cleaning but ahhhh the rewards!
