Default Fan inside Danby...

Hi all, I just stumbled upon this website - I was recently the lucky (?) recipient of a Danby kegerator... I read this website up and down and also googled a lot of other ones after reading about the problems. I have not used the unit for beer dispensing yet, however just to test I set my unit to 36 and placed a glass of water inside of it and took the temp and it was in the low-mid 30's, so that's ok I guess - I saw on another website how someone temporarily put a small desk fan inside their unit routing the cord through the top/back of the unit in order to circulate cool air/cool the tower.

My question is, is this a viable and safe short-term help to keeping the beer flowing properly? As in, can I put a small desk fan inside the unit and keep it powered on while a keg is in there and in use, and not risk any safety with the unit (turn it into a fire hazard, etc.)

I won't be using the unit that much, but when I do I'd like to get out of it what it's supposed to do, and if I can keep this fan in there safely during use and it would help, I'd gladly do that (I have a small Vornado fan laying around that would be perfect for this use)

Thanks for all of your posts this is a great resource (and unfortunately so many of you come here experiencing pain with your kegerators and that's the reason for the posts, but either way it's a great place)

I have a small fan from Wal-Mart in mine that I intended for temporary use until I cooled the tower. I think I did it about a year ago and it has worked so well that I've not made a priority of cooling the tower. And I use my kegerator heavily.

How did you route the cord for the small fan you have in yours?

These pics show how I routed the wires through the tower opening. The black wires are the fan and the white wires are for the temperature switch i added.
