Danby not cold enough
Just bought the Danby keg cooler model#DKC645BLS from Sam's Club, nice price but I can't get the temperature low enough. This unit has a digital thermostat and gauge, I set it to the lowest temperature it will go, 36 degrees. I have been running it with a 1/2 keg that is now only 1/4 full for 2 days and when I check the temperature by impersing a thermometer in a cup of water that has been in it for 1 day I get consistent temperature readings of 44 degrees. I have verified with a 2nd thermometer but not immersed in water, just a regular refrigerator thermometer. Has anybody heard of problems with these units, should I return it? I called the service line and they said they haven't really had any issues but a few customers have been calling about this issue. They are testing 50 units and will have the results in 2 weeks. Should I wait or return this unit? If I should return it can you recommend another unit that will keep my beer cold. Thank you for any help you can give me.

Why not just return it for the same unit? My buddy has one of these and has had no problems so maybe you just got a bad one.

I live 1 hour away from where I bought it and I wasn't totally sure it wasn't working. Danby is going to send me a new sensor unit, if that doesn't work I will wait till they finish testing the 50 units and see if they have a solution. If all else fails I will throw the keg out, and load the unit back in my car for the 1 hour drive. Please excuse my whining.

Whining is completely acceptable when you are expecting nice cold tap beer at home and not getting it. Best of luck.

I called my local Sams club and they said bring it back, so it is going back. Any suggestions on a better unit or the best unit?

I originally wanted the Perlick kegerator, but with shipping it would have been $1500. too $$$ for me, I looked @ the Haier units, was told there had been thermostat issues with those. I settled on the Sears Kenmore unit, holds 1/4 & 1/2 barrels, easy to assemble and have no issues with it. Great cold suds @ my fingertips [ ]

danby sucks
I bought my danby dkc645bls from Sams club. The temperature digital readout wouldn't go below 46 degrees. I lost my receipt so I couldn't return the unit to Sams Club and danby's service center said it was my fault since I had it mounted the cooler under a bar in a cabinet. They were very rude and would not offer any help. Not much I can do except throw the unit out and buy one from someone else. Lesson learned....don't buy from Danby!

If you went through all the trouble of mounting it in a bar, you might want to try to modify it to make it work for you. Here is a link, one of many on here about different tips and tricks to make the cheaper ones work better.
Keep your head up, try searching danby, temperature, resistor. There are a handful of us who modified these and made them work just fine. Best of luck, Chad

Being mounted in a cabinet under a bar may pose some problems that even the modifications here won't help. I'm not saying there isn't hope, but an appliance such as a refrigerator, which is what a beer cooler is, requires air circulation to work.
