Just set mine up, can't wait to try it :)
Ordered Kit monday morning around 8:30am. Went and got a new fridge for the task on monday as well. Tuesday put keg in fridge so it had time to settle and get to the right temp. Kit arrived at 5:15 today, had kit installed by 6:15, it only took 15 minutes, but it took me a while to find my holesaws, should have done that on tuesday....
The place to get CO2 in my town closes at 5pm, so UPS has killed my chance of getting it tonight. Sometimes I hate being at the end of my UPS drivers route...
Tomorrow, it's on!!!
I definatly feel a sick day comming on so that I can get to know my new kegerator, and spend some quality time bonding with my couch
One question, how important is the 38 degrees? I have tried my best but I can't get it dead on 38 - it's been holding steady at 37 will one degree make a difference?

The 37 should be fine if it is the liquid temp and not the fridge temp. Just because the cabinet is 37-38 don't automatically assume the beer is. Enjoy your new kegerator.
BTW, who will deliver your packages if you call in sick? I'd hate to think someone didn't get their new kegerator kit while you were staying home with yours.

LOL I don't work at UPS -- I meant I hate being one of the UPS drivers last stops on his route. Because I am at the end of the UPS route, I did not get the tank in time to get it filled today - Guess I worded that poorly....
If I don't go to work, 9 offices don't get thier computers fixed
As to my temp, I have no idea what the air temp is, I have a pitcher of water with podler style digital thermometer in it and the read out showing outside the fridge. That temp says 37...
I added the sticky strip thermometer/keg level guage thing that came in the kit and it's been on the keg for 2 hours and it is saying 42.
Not sure which thermometer to trust. Off to find one of my wifes other themometer to get a third reading.

Offices and computers? Never mind then... Drink up.
And I'd trust the thermometer in the water before the strip on the keg. The Smartstrip IMO does well for gauging the level of the beer in the keg, but I've not seen the temperature display to be even close.

I am not sure I can - it's a cooking thermometer to tell when meat is done -- the kind you keep in the roast while it's in the oven then set what temp you want the alarm to go off on....
Finaly got the co2 in, set at 12 pounds, quite a bit of foam and I see bubbles building up in the beer line -- guessing that means too warm so I turned the temp down a bit till I can get a propper thermometer for the job.
Does micromatic sell them?

OK so I am ghetto calibrating the thermomoter now -- I can't adjust it, but I am doing the water/ice/30 minutes thing, and while I can't adjust it, I will have a simple number and simple math of how far it's off to work with...

colder is better -- beer not foaming now -- has a slight vinegar taste - guessing that comes from thinking it was cold enough when it was not... Thank god I chose a cheap shitty beer for first go round in case i had it all messed up like i did -- went with miller lite -- there is no wasting that beer no matter how foamy or rotten you get it
But in a week, the setup will be right for a nice magic hat #9 keg - and that's what life is all about

Jeff, if you can not physically change the tenperature reading on your thermometer,simply fudge the amount of degrees that it is off from 32 F -while in ice water. Also, please keep the posts clean. Thanks!

Gulper, post your temperature, line length and co2 pressure and someone will help. The whole thing relies on all these things to be matched depending on what beer you are pouring and whatnot.

Just got a keg of magic hat #9!!!
I got the number for Magic Hat off thier site and called to ask what they sugest temp and pressure wise, and they told me 40 degrees and 10-12 pounds pressure. Gonna try it out like they sugested.
Waiting till 6 or so to tap it so it has time to settle from the 3 minute drive from the store (Convience store right outside of my subdivision sells kegs with 3 day notice)

Need less foamy beer...
PyschoDad...(funny I had a kitty named PyschoKitty). anyway... heres the details...
1. Sam Adams 1/2 barrell
2. CO2 set to 10
3. Temperature...I need to get a thermometer. but the refig dial is set to 6 out of a possible 9 (9 being the coldest)
4. Line is 5 feet long
5. Pour into a pitcher with it on an angle at first. Sometimes into a mug and the mug would be frozen.
I'll get a thermometer tomorrow and check it.
But do you have typically settings for Sam Adams?
Jeff...3 minutes... to the keg store...any houses for sale there? I be moving into your neighborhood My keg store is 20 minutes way with a 3 day wait or about 40 minutes to go straight to the distributor.
-Smiles

I had to go back and reread what you posted. I missed it the first time. I guess I just read it as an adjective and not as a bad word.

Google "beer clean glass" and see what you come up with there. I like a frosty mug too for bottled beer, but draught beer is a different animal.
I'm not sure about settings for Sam Adams, but until you know the actual liquid temperature it is moot. Get a good thermometer and do as suggested several places on this site and draw one beer, chug it and then draw another into the same glass and measure the temperature.

CO2 = 10
hose line = 5 feet
temp = 40
beer = Sam Adams
used a room temp mug
chugged one then tested second
beer seems to taste much better
not flat but still a little foamy
