import vs domestic prices and value

everyone seems to think it a better value to buy imported beer and at 140 for a keg of heinken or 129 for grolsh or dois xx that equals 2 kegs at 70 each, i have a local brewerie that make about 15 different kinds of beer and all their 1/2 kegs are 70$ so at leat i dont have to settle for bud or the like. if it wasnt for that i would be mad to pay 140 for crappy heinken

$70 for a half keg or a half barrell? I get a keg of Boulevard Wheat for $109. I live in St. Louis, and they get $95 for a keg of Bud around here. So for an extra $14, the good beer is a no brainer for me.

Out of curiosity, what do other people pay for Budweiser in other parts of the country? Around here it costs more in bottles/cans than anywhere else in the country, which always made little sense to me, since the brewery is downtown St. Louis. I guess once you have the hometown market hooked on your product they can charge whatever and people will pay it.

thats half keg what the hell is a barrel? bud is about 68$ and imports are 130 to 150 and thats double and bs. florida here btw, i would also like to hear other prices

A barrel is a US unit of measurement, 31 gallons.
US beer barrel: 31 US gallons (117.3 litres), the result of tax law definitions

A keg is 15.5 gallons of beer, also referred to as a half barrel, since it's half of a legally defined barrel.
a half keg is usually refferred to as a quarter barrel, or a pony keg, is 7.75 gallons of beer.

So Bud costs $68 for a half keg/quarter barrel?

15.5 gallons IS a full keg. It's also a half barrel, not a half keg. Nobody sells a full barrel.

Regardless, that's what I'm getting at. The prices for buttwiper and buttlight here are outrageous, especially since the brewery is just down the road. $95 a keg. It's 30 bucks cheaper where the cost of living is probably 20-30 percent higher.

Bud costs about $87.50 for a half barrel, here in Maryland. Shiner Bock costs the same, but tastes a whole lot better, so guess what I bought.

In Baltimore MD we pay $80 for bud/lite miller coors and all that jazz. Imports and the like are usually in the $120-$130 range

State taxes are quite different and reflect 1/2Bbl prices significantly.

In mass its $135 for craft brews and $90 for your bud lights.miller lites.. although it is going to go up anywhere from $5 to $ 10 given the hops and barley shortages!!! 15.5 gall for these prices!

Sorry to bring an older post back but thought I would throw my 2 cents in. Your keg beer may not of actually came from the brewery down the street. I am originally from the St. Louis area and years ago drove a truck and hauled beer. I have hauled numerous loads of keg beer from the Bud brewery in Columbus OH. to the brewery in St. Louis. Taxes may be a huge part of it as well.

Taxes...try living up here in The Great White North. We pay..get this..$200 for a keg (15.5) of domestic and $260 for imports. Government run stores so beer is priced base on segment (domestic or import), not on brewer/brand. Oh, and deposit is not included. God Bless America.

Those are just some of the beer prices here for kegs. Domestics dont reach over 70-80 bucks, and imports can go to 190 bucks depending on the beer.

the distributors in my area of illinois are raising their keg deposits 5to10 bucks more. due to the boneheads who snag them and sell them at the scrapyard.junk prices are at a premium around here,the are even stealing copper plumbing out of houses! cya....brianatkcdraft

I just coors light for $45 in NJ with an instant rebate. Thats really cheap for a full keg. I dont drink it but wanted to pass it along.

I just got a keg of sams summer ale at cost and it was a killer at 165.00 plus tax
