Yes, the interior fan is supposed to run constantly. No, I don't find the sound of the compressor running to be distracting. I have mine in what would be considered a dining room but I use it for an office/computer room. The room is completely open to my living room and it doesn't interfere with watching tv, visiting, etc. In fact, the fans on the computer in that room make just as much noise as the BM23.
Could you tell me how long your compressor runs for? Also how big of a temp swing between compressor on/off? I'm having problems with mine running forever just to drop the temp to setpoint. I have a guy coming this weekend to check on it but I would like to have this bit of info before hand.
