Sounds like a damaged keg, the internal line that takes the beer fom the bottom of the keg is most likely disconnected, so when in it's proper posistion all gas but on its side you get beer, problem is after you get half way through the keg you will get all gas again. Take the keg back where you bought it and swap it out for a new one.
