There is a trick I use with my propane tanks on my BBQ grill....it might work with kegs too (i've never tried with a keg...i just lift my keg every so often).

Take a large cup of hot water and pour down the side of the keg (have a towel handy). Run your hand down the side of the keg. Where the keg goes from being warm to cold indicates the level of beer inside the keg.
