It certainly sounds like you have a motor that has bearings starting to go. Those little motors are not worth repairing, it would cost less to replace it. The motor is not that expensive to begin with.

the fan inside the danby shouldn't make any noise. I never hear it when it runs. The fan is cheap, I would recommend replacing it. If you have warranty service, call for it. If not, you can call Danby and they will be able to sell you a replacement fan, and it really shouldn't cost much.
