The pump is running (vibrating) and gets very hot, but the coil on the back is room temp. The inside plate is also room or slightly cooler than room temp.

Now granted the unit is 10 years old, but still looks new and has been used for most of that time.

Any idea what could be wrong? Should I fix or replace?
Thanks

A question or two... when you defrosted the unit I presume there was a big ice buildup.
Did you attempt to chip off the ice?
If so, did you accidently hit the evaporator causing the refrigerant to leak out?

If this is the case do not run it anymore. Get someone to look at it. Depending what the evaporator plate is made from (aluminum or copper) will determine how easy it is to repair. If it is stamped aluminum it must be replaced, it cannot be repaired. And that may be cost prohibitive in itself.
