I understand what you are doing.

I personally would use another hose (1.5" diameter inside the 3" ducting).

Or on page two of the thread (previously linked) you see how he used the 3" ducting to extend the hole? If you do the same and use a longer piece (I am personally using a PVC pipe that was 2' when I bought it and cut down to the desire length) and create a "longer tower" that connects the bottom of your tower to the top of the fridge and then use the smaller hose inside of it.

Did I make any sense?
